St. John Paul II and the Rosary

April 27th marks the one-year anniversary of the canonization of St. John Paul II, one of the longest serving and most beloved of all the Popes in modern history.

St. John Paul II is dear to the friars at the Rosary Shrine of St. Jude because he was very influential in promoting devotion to the Rosary—a goal that has been close to the heart of our Order since our spiritual father, St. Dominic, received the Rosary from Our Lady in the 13th Century.

As supporters of the Rosary Shrine of St. Jude, you know just how important the Rosary is in living our Christian Faith and how it enhances the power of our prayers. In his apostolic letter “Rosarium Virginis Mariae”, Pope John Paul II wrote about how the Rosary had the power to bring forth a “harvest of holiness” and how it helps to “proclaim Christ” to the world. He also promised that:

“The revival of the Rosary in Christian families … will be an effective aid to countering the devastating effects of [the] crisis typical of our age.”

Along with promoting devotion to the Holy Rosary, the Rosary Shrine of St. Jude seeks every day to proclaim Christ and His Truth to the world, and to remind us to contemplate His Mysteries so that we, too, may share in the fullness of God’s graces and blessings.

With your faithful support of the Rosary Shrine of St. Jude, the Dominican Friars can continue to serve you and all God’s people, as we have for many years in our nation’s capital, through the good times and the bad.

The Dominican Friars at the Rosary Shrine of St. Jude will continue to pray for you and your loved ones, and to include you and your intentions in our daily good works.
